FINALLY

We were begining to get a little worried here in So. Lake Tahoe. The grass looked like it was going to start growing again last week. But now we finally have some snow. If your one of those Northern Nevada natives that hates snow because it sucks and you don't ski or board or sled, let me tell you how much revenue the ski season brings to northern Nevada. Vail is pretty much giving Stateline a facelift. Given that it's very expensive to rebuild in Tahoe, Vail is dumping a ton of money in their acquisition of Heavenly and a lot of bordering ventures are following suit because "hey if Vail is here that means that people will follow". This is true...if you have snow. This week is one of the busiest in the season, and we finally have real snow. The only bad thing is getting the pot smokin kooks talking about how my car is the reason why we don't have snow. I think global warming is just a trend. Does anybody else have a take on global warming?

CFCs causing holes in the atmosphere; therefore, our earth's ability to have some protection from the sun is lessened. the more holes that hotter it gets. now, couple that w/ the theory of thermodynamics & the tendency of entropy & i guess global warming is possible. if the earth is slowly deteriorating, then extreme hots & colds are completely feasible.

One of the things that makes this difficult to determine is the possibility that current temperature trends are just normal variation in a process that spans hundreds of years and in which the majority of these years no data has been collected.

If I understand statistical process control correctly, it is doubtful we have enough of a sampling population to set control limits and determine whether or not this is normal or abnormal variation.

Diga, you have thoughts on this?

I remember when I was in high school (mid seventies) scientists spent a lot of time talking about the coming ice age.

My dad has a cousin who does these snow layer research in Antarctica. They measure the methane levels in the different layers of the snow pack. She has gone back hundreds of years and they found that the earth is just going through normal trends.

i have many thoughts on this. in fact, most geologists will still tell you about the coming ice age. any "scientist" that tells you otherwise is probably somehow politically motivated to espouse the existence of global warming.

it is funny as i actually watched one of the "college democrats" or whatever they call themselves walk out of my geology class crying after the professor basically mocked her notion that global warming was real and caused by evil republicans. he was of the notion that whatever damage we were doing couldn't make a difference of even one degree and that we have had hotter climates in the history of the earth than we have now.

that being said there are probably equally qualified folks who would tell you that global warming is a serious problem. i think that part of being stewards of God's creation is not continuing to do things we know are bad for the earth or for others on the earth regardless of the long-term consequences.

I blame it on all the smokers.

Smoking monkeys included?

There ya go, global warming is now attributed to the smoking monkeys. Thats awesome georgia. Thank you :)
